While the crisis is global and worldwide coordination is essential, our response, in order to be truly successful, must be implemented at the local level. This panel brings together Professor John Fernández, artist Jeff Frost, Mayor of Jersey City Steven Fulop, atmospheric scientist Katharine Hayhoe, engineer B.H. Bronson Johnson, and Mayor of Miami Francis Suarez to discuss how working together, at the local level, can help to plan for and address key issues such as education of skeptical populations, resiliency measures, and response planning.

PANEL Actors From Witnesses, Earth Institute & Mana Contemporary

6-7pm EST (3-4pm PST)

RSVP

When art meets science, those who were once witnesses or observers of an issue can become active participants in advancing change. Artists help us witness majestic and unexplored terrain, and illustrate landscapes and imagery that viewers may never be able to visit in person. Pairing the imagery created by artists with the thoughts of climate experts, this panel will inspire its audience to move from passive witnesses to active agents of change.

Robin Bell will moderate a conversation among Caroline Juang, Zaria Forman, and Jeff Frost to investigate what emotions emerge from art and unpack how art can motivate us to move beyond fear to hope and action.

Presented in partnership with The Earth Institute at Columbia University and the Columbia Climate School.

SCREENINGS LA Art Documents L.A. Mise-en-scène Video Art Festival

California on Fire & GO HOME will both be a part of this online video art festival geared towards contemporary art & experimentalism.

http://www.laartdocuments.com/videoartfestival/

L.A. Art Documents presents: L.A. Mise-en-scène Video Art Festival, an online exhibition featuring experimental video art works curated by the producers of L.A. Art Documents, Jason Jenn and Vojislav Radovanović. The title and conceit of the show uses the film industry and its terminology “mise-en-scène” to create a cohesive through line for the varied works. Mise-en-scène is a film-making term that translates originally from French to “placing on stage”. It is used academically to describe the arrangement of everything that appears in the framing of the camera – actors, lighting, décor, props, costumes. Together these elements convey the important visual storytelling aspects of cinema.

CALIFORNIA ON FIRE will make it’s Russian premiere at this unique film festival!

Kinodot was created to support and distribute new experimental films, and to inspire filmmakers to experiment in their own way. We promote freedom of ideas, formalism, simplicity and self-restriction as oppose to the secondary film production and self-censorship of high budget festivals. We believe that a great film can be created with very basic means, without special education or expensive equipment. We also believe that creating and following a strict set of formal rules can have a liberating effect on every artist.
